Our Worst Excuse: The Perfectionist’s Lie

You hear from the great rock stars, public figures all those who have moved the needle of the world. They were terrified. They were scared, but they didn’t stop. Even with the failure on their mind, with the fear in their body and that impulse running, they did it anyway because they used their higher conscious, their higher desire to serve.

Let’s start that today. Let’s be okay with the fear and the fact that everything is going to be messy, but at least begin, at least complete it, because nothing is perfected anyway until it’s completed. First it has to be completed and then we can tinker, tweak it and perfect it. A lot of our major brands and the major tools and technologies, they release and complete things. They release them as beta and then they perfect them and get them better and better, but at least they released, completed and started serving and getting their things in the marketplace.

How Successful People Think

I believe there’s a huge difference in the way successful people and unsuccessful people think, and I believe that success itself is not some big mystery that people haven’t figured out before.

Success has been figured out and we all know it’s a mindset game. Most of success is just about how we use our psychology.

I think there’s a difference between successful and unsuccessful people in the way they particularly think about approaching something new. I think unsuccessful people, when they have a big dream and start thinking about what’s going to be required to accomplish that dream, they get very limiting in their beliefs about themselves and what’s possible.

How to Overcome Fear

What is the thing that we’re so scared of that’s going to bring in all this pain to our lives? I remember figuring this out for myself and when I did I wasn’t so scared anymore. Sometimes once you understand things more they aren’t so terrifying. Once something becomes knowable then you can develop competency around it and once you can develop competency around it then you can develop confidence around it.

There’s this old thing in psychology called ‘competence confidence loop’, which is the more you understand something the more confidence you have in that area. It’s the same thing with anything that does happen to impulsively generate some fear in yourself and now, once you understand what it is, you can deal with it better because what we all fear basically is three types of pain, three areas where we might experience pain in our lives. Then, once we understand that, we can re-orient our mindset around those things and no longer be frustrated or stopped by fear.

The Caged, Comfortable, or Charged Life

I believe there are three kinds of life, and depending where we are in that spectrum of lives, we’re going to have a different quality of life. If we’re on this side of the spectrum we’re often miserable and suffering, struggling and upset all the time. Whereas, if we’re over here we’re fully engaged, energized and enthusiastic, and knowing where we are on this spectrum can completely change our lives, because we can make a decision about what type of life we want to live.

What I Believe

I believe that we all have a voice that each and everyone of us has had knowledge, wisdom, and experience gifted to us that what we have learned in our lifetimes, our struggles, our challenges, our trials, or our trans. can be used to help other people. My story began…

In that experience, I discovered what I called the life’s last three questions:

  • Did I Live?
  • Did I Love?
  • Did I Matter?

Enthusiasm and Contempt Are Both Self-fulfilling

choice

Someone who shows up with enthusiasm made a decision before she even encountered what was going on. The same thing is true for the guy who scowls with contempt before the customer opens his mouth.

It’s a choice.

This choice is contagious.

This choice changes what will happen next.

This choice is at the heart of what it takes to be successful at making change or performing a service.

More than you imagine, we get what we expect.
